The pairing does catch one off guard. I had had much the same reaction, but after a re-watch, I had to admit to myself it wasn't so out of left field as I'd thought at first. I think I'd just been blinded to it because Jed and Octavius were just so obvious. Same, about the crack ship. I'm a sucker for a surprise pairing, I don't always end up shipping it but I almost always have a look first. ;) (And yes, nothing wrong with kitties :3)
