Challenge #9
In your own space, promote at least one canon that you adore (old, new, forever fandom). Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
So I was a little torn when I saw this challenge, but I think I've settled on Star Wars Rebels. The Clone Wars is wonderful and it is so often the one that is recommended to others but I was really surprised to discover how good Rebels was as well. It is admittedly a smaller story, in the sense that it isn't about an army or an order or the fate of the galaxy but rather it is a story about a boy who finds himself a family and learns to grow up. Of course it is also a story about the fate of the galaxy because the fate of the galaxy hangs on all the little stories put together.
The story starts out with a more comedic and madcap energy but that fits with the age that the main character Ezra is at. As Ezra ages so does the tone of the story. Ezra is almost accidentally adopted into a crew (family) made up of really fun and dynamic characters who have all survived some sort or trauma. Much of the story line is devoted to the interplay between all of the crew members as well as plenty of focus on their individual issues, and all of that is painted onto the backdrop of the Rebellion against the Empire.
One of the stand out parts of this show is a very believable and well earned redemption arc for one of the main villains. I feel like this is really quite something in a children's program, but they pull it off so well that I feel it could be a model for other media.
You also get a lot of cameos and references to characters and events in The Clone Wars so I would recommend starting with that one, just be sure to keep going on to Rebels. :D
