If I was to be held down and forced to pick a single One True Pairing™ I would pick Bagginshield. Some of that is that I am a huge Tolkien nerd and I love Middle-earth, so the prospect of having that and a gay interspecies romance for the ages as portrayed by Richard Armitage and Martin Freeman is just too wonderful to deny. I love them so much, and I don’t even feel like I can really put “why” into words, so this is me basically just flailing at you about my love for this pairing.

When I was first starting to read fanfiction, I read het fic. I wasn’t fully aware of the other options because heteronormativity is a thing. Once I became acquainted with the alternatives I read het fic less and less over the years and now in my adulthood, it is rare indeed. I also rarely get interested in new het pairings, but boy howdy, Braime is one of the major exceptions. Their dynamic is a delicious inversion of the “Beauty and the Beast” trope, but more than that their interactions are so wonderful and full of emotion and growth, and genuine regard that does not have to be romantic to be interesting (but it’s even more fun when it is :)). One of the best things about this pairing is that you can take them and put them in any world, at any time and the tension, the uncertainty and the conflict to them being together translates. The “ugly” girl and the “handsome” man will always fly in the face of the conventional while their chemistry makes them undeniable which I suppose that is why I love it so much.

A while back I set about deliberately to cultivate an interest in femslash fanfic. I had read some here and there over the years, and I don’t know, I just couldn’t get into the dynamics or tropes or something they just seemed off. After meeting someone that read femslash exclusively, I availed myself of the opportunity to ask for recommendations. They read Swan Queen, and while I did enjoy the stories it still wasn’t going to become an OTP so I started looking around again on my own. Enter Cartinelli. I would have to say that this was my first real femslash OTP, and I feel like it was the perfect gate way pairing for someone who preferred slash pairings. I adore Peggy Carter and she fits neatly into the pattern of competent badass that I had enjoyed before even if she does it was a hell of a lot more pretty. Angie Martinelli fits the mantle of support character with emotional savvy and a sunny disposition, all things that I’d gone in for before. I just like the feel and the energy of them, though I found myself disappointed when Angie wasn’t included in the second season and then the show's cancellation. But what is fanfic for if not to pick up where canon leaves us wanting more.

Despite how short a run Almost Human had as a show, Jorian as a ship that I adore has had quite a long half-life. There are really obvious reasons for that in that Karl Urban and Michael Ealy are lovely, but there are a few less obvious reasons as well. I love the inherent difficulty of a human/android pairings and that it's also compounded by being police partners. I love the thorny issues of consent that are brought up and have to be dealt with in the stories. I love when someone writes them an original case fic (that’s so good) but I also love when they get some much needed resolution to the story lines begun in the show. The show was cancelled a good while ago (five years already, jeez) but I’m still not quite over it nor am I over this really great pairing.

And as always, I have made icons for this ship I love. <3

While I’d read and enjoyed fanfiction before Buffy the Vampire Slayer I was never as invested as I got to be with Buffy so it has always felt like my ur-fandom. At that point I read only het stories and I even remember very vividly being on a fansite (Geocities ;)) that had a link to “Slash” with no explanation about what that was so I assumed that it meant gory stories a la slasher films. A very short time later Lord of the Rings came out and I found myself educated in the meaning of slash fanfiction and I returned to BtVS interested in what was on offer. Spander immediately jumped out at me not because I could see it as an extension of the text like some ships, but more because I was really interested in how authors might get them from where they stood in canon to making me believe in them as a pairing. Another part of their appeal was that they both functioned as outsiders in different ways and I, very much an outsider at the time, loved stories of them not only finding each other but in building ties to a greater community.

I’m not sure if I would have latched on to this pairing with as much adoration if I’d have encountered them first when I was older, but as it stands with the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia I still have great affection for this ship that dominated by late teens.

And because icon making seems to be my new favorite thing, I’ve got some of those too. :)

Current Location: Argued with a conservative, I really shouldn't do that.

For me, shipping MattFoggy is like the fandom equivalent of comfort food, snuggly blankets, and your favorite song playing. It is my go-to feel-good ship. That’s not to say that there is not any drama or angst, it's just that this BFF pairing just ticks off all of my comfort boxes. My preference is for some sort of mutual pining situation that neither wants to upset but that gets shaken up by the events of the show enough for them to admit their feelings for each other.

With a lot of pairings I like the characters as a unit not really having a strong preference for either of them while alone. Foggy bucks that trend by being one of my all time favorites. I love me some Foggy Bear. ;D One of my favorite pairing specific tropes/scenarios is Foggy meeting the Avengers and him becoming friends with/emotional support for them because vigilantes (even government endorsed ones) needs all the help they can get.

And because I can’t seem to help it any longer, I now have icons for these guys too. :)

The very latest OTP to latch onto my heart has been Catradora from Netflix’s She-Ra: Princess of Power. Oh, I’ve not been this gone over a cartoon since Avatar the Last Airbender truthfully and I’m so excited that Season Two drops in April. \o/

I have enjoyed the dynamic that they embody (friends to enemies to lovers) as one that I’ve loved and seen played out by a few slash ships over the years. I love the thought of a femslash pairing getting to do the same thing. They are so delightfully fraught. I don’t even need them to be endgame, but if Catra doesn’t get a redemption arc I’m going on record now that I am going to be UPSET™. That being said I’m enjoying the heck out of the fanfiction that has already been produced and I’m looking forward to more.

And because I’m enjoying the icon-making I have a few more SPOP icons to share. :)

So I have acquired a new photo editor that is the finest money didn't have to buy. ;) But seriously it's worlds better than what I was trying to work with so I'm pleased. In light of this, I updated the icons I did yesterday so they look a little better (I think anyway) and I also made some more. :D

These were all from episode two. I like the She-Ra one, but I'm rather jazzed about Madame Razz as well. ;) Under the cut I have a few more but with text.

Current Location: Enjoying my day off.

So the weather has been kicking my butt, not in the "I live in a deep freeze" sort of way but more in a "these wild temperature fluctuations are setting off my migraines". :( I'm feeling okay right now, so I figured I should resist the urge to procrastinate to my day off tomorrow because I don't know if I'll be okay then.

While I haven't had much brain focus for thinky thoughts, I've actually been consuming canon media. o_O The spouse started season two of The Punisher while I was at work last Friday, but I got to see the rest as we stayed up to nearly midnight to finish it.

I'm going to attempt to put any spoiler-y things under a cut, ~~but I've not been 100% successful at doing that first time so look away if this doesn't precede a cut~~. XP

Now on to the canon media that I just finished this morning, I watched She-Ra! I'm a little behind the times, but not as much as I usually am and I am utterly in love. :D I was unfamiliar with the original show besides being able to pick out the character of She-Ra, but besides knowing that she was in some way connected to He-Man I didn't know anything. So while I went in with no preconceived notions, I didn't think it would really grab my attention. I was wrong. I loved the whole thing. I loved the designs for the characters and the settings, I loved the plot, I love the lore building, and I can't wait for a second season because I have so many questions!

But the thing I love the most is, ugh, the Catradora! I have a documented weakness for the former friends turned enemies but still really hung up on each other dynamic (Grindeldore, Clex, oh God, Cherik!). It is my jam. And these cute baby lesbians are playing my song.

I have loved this all so much that I have tried to make icons, because well I meant to start doing that and I just need more She-Ra in my life to tide me over to the next season. ;D

I decided to try to make some icons and to put them in a table. If anyone has any tips, tricks, or notices some glaring errors I'd not be averse to a little help. :D (And quick question, where do folks usually host their icons? I kind of winged it, but I'm curious.)
