Title: Lost & Found
Author: jofngve
Canon: The Mandalorian
Pairing: Din Djarin/Luke Skywalker
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 88,697
Summary: Luke is not entirely sure how he is supposed to handle a situation like this. "Uh," the Mandalorian says, it fizzles through the modulator. The small girl he is holding in his arms looks up from where she has hidden her face in his neck. "Yeah, so this is Rey." --- So Mando has a tendency of finding and picking up Force sensitive children to bring them to Luke's finally some-what functioning school on Yavin. Which would be fine if the both of them didn't happen to stumble across the fact that the Empire is also in the business of collecting children.

Recommendation: Comment Hiatus ~ A partial hiatus in that I'll post a rec but I won't do the write up because I'm really behind and real life is getting in my way.

Title: Lost Before We're Found
Author: Imwastingmylifeinhere
Canon: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Pairing: Adora/Catra
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 86,839
Summary: Catra, deemed "useless" by Hordak, is shipped off to Beast Island. After managing to escape, she finds something she never thought she'd have. A place of her own. A proper home. A mother. Oh, and apparently she's a princess. Well, isn't that ironic. ~ Adora, having learned of Catra's banishment, is determined to get her friend back. Whatever that takes.

Recommendation: Oh man, I love this. I love thought of Catra discovering that she is in fact an honest to God PRINCESS. The irony. The hilarity. The trauma to unpack. But with family and a people just like her. Adora side is rather like a gut punch, but the pay off is worth it. Oh man, so good.

Title: Daffodil
Author: Mushroomfields
Canon: Bungo Stray Dogs
Pairing: Yukichi Fukuzawa/Ougai Mori
Rating: General [G]
Word Count: 83,084
Summary: Mori and Fukuzawa are hit with an ability that transports them to a parallel universe. Now, stuck in an unfamiliar world the only thing left familiar is each other. So, sticking together while they go on a journey to figure out how to get home is the unfortunate logical option.

Recommendation: Oops, ran out of time to get this worked up but it’s a good one!

Title: Retcon
Author: saltandlimes
Canon: Thor | MCU
Pairing: Thor Odinson/Loki Laufeyson
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 89,907
Summary: Infinity War Fix-it fic. The Avengers and their allies are losing the battle against Thanos. As New York falls, Loki finds his way into Dr. Strange's sanctuary, where Strange guards the last remaining Infinity Stone, locked away in the Eye of Agamotto. All Loki has to do to fix it is to go back in time, all the way back to before he let the Jotun into Asgard during Thor's botched coronation, and change things. Fix the past, and he'll fix the future. The only problem is Loki hasn't considered what exactly is waiting for him in the past. Or more precisely, who. Thor is back there, and he's even more bloodthirsty and uncontrolled than Loki remembers.

Recommendation: If you're a fan of Thor and Loki, nevermind Thorki, a fix-it for Infinity War is a must and this one is wonderful, and when I have more time I’ll probably come back and go on about at length but suffice to say it is great.

Title: Secret Rooms of Hogwarts
Author: Attila
Canon: Rivers of London
Pairing: Peter Grant/Thomas Nightingale
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 86,846
Summary: When Peter Grant is whisked out of unemployment and into a post as Potions Master at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he expects the teenagers to be the worst things in the castle. It's a pity Lesley May thinks one of the other new professors might be working for the Faceless Man. And as far as she's concerned, the most likely suspect is Defense expert Thomas Nightingale--gorgeous, talented, and a totally sketchy bastard.

Recommendation: Holy crap, I loved this so much! I loved all the parts that were integrated together, especially the magic. I love that they are both teachers. I love the use of the Room of Requirement and all the Rivers characters popping up. It is just so great!!

Title: Reassembling
Author: texanfan
Canon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Xander Harris/William 'Spike' Pratt
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 80,953
Summary: What if both Buffy and Anya died at the end of The Gift?

Recommendation: This was awesome! I've been a fan of Reconstruction by Wordsmith for quite a few years now, but this is the first time reading another story that builds an AU from this point in time that I feel works and works well. I love all the little touches; including the genuine seeming grief and coping (or lack of coping) that goes on [i.e.; Willow's ill-advised magic use, Dawn's stealing, etc.], the family-building even with the miscommunication that comes with families, the inclusion of Jonathan and the resolution of the situation with Warren and Andrew, the slow build between Xander and Spike, the elephant in the room that is the Scoobies trusting Spike on a gut level for a long time, and the whole group working together to protect the Hellmouth without Buffy. I love that it allows all of them to grow, in a realistic way, beyond where the show had always seemed to leave them in favor of Buffy's narrative. All in all, this was super enjoyable and I stayed up way too late trying to finish it and it has already rocketed itself to my top ten Spander.

Title: Sweet Memories
Author: Kayla
Canon: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Pairing: Xander Harris/William 'Spike' Pratt
Rating: Explicit [NC-17]
Word Count: 80,772
Summary: Spike and Xander encounter a powerful demon, and the resulting battle has life altering consequences.

Recommendation: This was another one of those stories that I remembered small snatches of but not the title or the author and I was having the devil's own time trying to find it again. Thankfully I was able to stumble upon it again because it's a lot of fun. I love that thought of "demon magnet" Xander ending up in a building of friendly demons and fitting in. I also really loved the little snatches of lives Xander and Spike have met in before. Sprinkle in a little amnesia in to help sooth away earlier hard feelings and voilà, a good read with a happy ending.

Title: A Passion for Mushrooms
Author: Chrononautical
Canon: The Hobbit | Tolkienverse
Pairing: Thorin Oakenshield/Bilbo Baggins; side of Tauriel/Kíli
Rating: Teen [PG]
Word Count: 89,912
Summary: There are many trials for a hobbit attempting to make a life among dwarves. A hobbit wants a garden. A hobbit wants to eat regular meals. A hobbit wants friends, good books, and comfortable chairs. Bilbo does his best to carve out a little hobbit life for himself in the mountain. If only there were not one final obstacle. For a hobbit heart wants love, and among dwarves that is a sticky subject.

Recommendation: I love this SO MUCH! There is so much rich and lovely detail about dwarves, hobbits, gifts, and food. Oh, the food. Do not read this hungry, although even if you don't you probably will end up that way because of all of the lush descriptions of food. (That should not be unexpected from a story told from a hobbit's perspective.) The other main feature of this story is all of the cultural misunderstandings. Literally all of them. Bilbo's policy of "fake it until you make it" works only so well, as hobbits and dwarves are working from entirely different playbooks. Another thing that I adore about this story is all of the truly marvelous OCs, from Bilbo's apprentice to the princess of Rohan, they add so very much to this already delightful story. Last but certainly not least, the tension between Thorin and Bilbo is sweet torture as you the reader can see that they are both madly in love while remaining convinced of the other's friendly indifference. When the air is finally cleared and feelings are finally laid bear, *sigh* so sweet.

Title: Let Me Steal You
Author: rideswraptors
Canon: Game of Thrones | ASOIAF
Pairing: Sansa Stark/Jon Snow
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 88,705
Summary: “He may be a dragon by blood,” Sansa said, looking down to meet Ghost’s adoring red gaze, “but he was raised among wolves. To me, he will always be a Stark.”

Recommendation: This story is an interesting mix of show and book canon and book speculation, but first and foremost it is a story about rebuilding. Nothing terribly dramatic happens but honestly sometimes it is a relief to read a story where the Starks get to have nice things and to heal from the bad things and for people to get on with living. And while I love the slow build between Jon and Sansa, some of my favorite parts are the auxiliary relationships: Arya and Grey Worm, Sansa and the hill clans, and Jon and the Wildlings, etc. Oh, and I just love Tormund. He is in fact the best.

Title: Miss Trinket and a Mr. Abernathy
Author: TheDodoBird
Canon: The Hunger Games
Pairing: Haymitch Abernathy/Effie Trinket
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 80,610
Summary: “You have to start somewhere…” Beginning with Effie Trinket’s first year as escort, a story of how Effie and Haymitch became unlikely friends and more.

Recommendation: This story is my canon for Haymitch and Effie, I mean this to the point that when my husband liked the movies and wanted to know more because I’d read the books I had a hard time remembering where to draw the line of canon/headcanon because of this story. Finally I gave up and for the first time ever I recommended he read a fanfiction. He enjoyed it and though I know he’ll never be interested in another, I still I feel deeply satisfied that I got to share a little of my passion.

Title: This Game We Play
Author: kirkmills
Canon: Once Upon a Time
Pairing: Emma Swan/Regina Mills
Rating: Mature [R]
Word Count: 88,852
Summary: A Murder. A Visitation. A Family Dinner. When the citizens of Storybrooke are shaken by a mysterious but deadly invite, Emma finds herself heading up the investigation on a seemingly unsolvable case. But with her ever-blossoming friendship with Regina moving forward, and her relationship with her mother moving backward – not to mention the fact Ruby’s stopped talking to her – the Sheriff of Storybrooke would probably rather face the strange spirits invading her town than the troubles of her own personal life.

Recommendation: Happy New Year, readers! In celebration of this new year, I’ve arranged with my friend, Devyn, to present Femslash offerings every Friday for the foreseeable future. Sometimes it will be my own find and other times it will be his selection, and I’ll indicate that on each of his posts. Happy Reading!

“The story keeps you guessing and even when you reread it, it’s even better because you can see the threads pulled together.” – Devyn
